Tata Technologies and BMW Collaborate to Develop Automotive Technology.

Tata Technologies and BMW have formed a strategic alliance, resulting in the establishment of BMW TechWorks India, a 50:50 joint venture dedicated to the development of automotive software. This initiative encompasses software-defined vehicles (SDV), automated driving technologies, artificial intelligence applications, advanced infotainment systems, and business IT solutions.

The management team for BMW TechWorks India will feature Aditya Khera as the Chief Executive Officer and Sweta Girinatham as the Chief Financial Officer. From BMW’s side, Oliver Scheickl will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer for Automotive Software, while Stefan Flader will take on the position of Chief Operating Officer for Business IT. BMW TechWorks plans to set up offices in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The finalization of the contract and the necessary approvals from regulatory authorities are still awaited. Upon completion, the venture will commence operations with an initial workforce of 100 employees, with aspirations to grow to a four-digit employee count by the end of 2025, predominantly consisting of Indian professionals.

BMW TechWorks will concentrate on the business IT solutions of the BMW Group, playing a vital role in the digital transformation of the automaker’s production network, customer experience, and sales operations. A significant area of research will involve the creation of artificial intelligence applications and platforms aimed at improving business processes. The joint venture will emphasize the recruitment and development of local engineering talent.

The software expertise available in India will be invaluable for our future software-defined vehicles.
