Saif Ali Khan praises Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for ‘impressive’ transformation.
In response to a question regarding the political figures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Khan characterized all three as ‘courageous politicians’ capable of leading India into the future.
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has commended Rahul Gandhi, asserting that the Congress leader has successfully altered public perception of himself through diligent self-improvement.
During the India Today Mumbai Conclave 2024 held on Thursday evening, Khan expressed his admiration for politicians who exhibit courage and integrity. When questioned about which politician—Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi, or AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal—demonstrates the bravery necessary to guide India into the future, Khan acknowledged that all three are “brave politicians.” He further lauded Gandhi, noting that he had previously faced disrespect for his actions and statements. “I believe what Rahul Gandhi has accomplished is quite remarkable, especially considering there was a time when his words and actions were met with disdain.
He has managed to change that narrative through significant effort and in a compelling manner,” stated the 54-year-old actor. “Beyond this, I prefer not to delve into my political affiliations or support, as I aim to maintain an apolitical stance. The voice of the nation has been quite clear, and I take comfort in the fact that democracy is vibrant and flourishing in India,” he remarked.
Khan also clarified that he has no aspirations to enter the political arena. “I am not a politician and have no desire to become one. If I held strong opinions, I might consider that path and express them accordingly,” he explained. “I must say, you journalists are incredibly brave, far braver than I am. I am not seeking that level of scrutiny. However, if I were inclined, I would fully commit and join a political party. But at this moment, I am not prepared to take that step,” he concluded.
Saif, who is actively promoting his upcoming film Devara Part 1, participated in the India Today Conclave on Thursday. During the event, when inquired about the type of politician he admires, Saif stated, “I appreciate a courageous politician, an honest politician.” The host subsequently mentioned PM Narendra Modi, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Rahul Gandhi as examples, asking Saif to identify a courageous politician among them who could lead India into the future. Saif responded, “I believe they are all courageous politicians. I find Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to be particularly commendable. There was a time when his statements and actions were met with disrespect, but he has successfully changed that perception through diligent and innovative work.”
Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed shared the video of Khan speaking about Rahul Gandhi on her X handle. She said it was true that Gandhi has changed people’s views about him.
“Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is full of praise for LoP Rahul Gandhi Ji. What he says is absolutely true—Rahul Gandhi Ji has changed people’s views about him through his hard work,” she wrote.
