Reddit Expands – Reddit setting up office in Bengaluru; expanding India team!
Reddit, the American social media platform known for its diverse array of communities, is poised to enhance its operations in India by expanding its local team. Based in San Francisco, the platform has initiated the recruitment process for various positions across operations, policy, strategy, community management, growth, finance, and other sectors, as reported by Moneycontrol. While some positions offer flexible working arrangements, an official announcement regarding the expansion has yet to be made.

The platform’s communities are experiencing significant growth, particularly in areas such as cricket, technology, finance, and Bollywood. India is reportedly home to Reddit’s second-largest user base globally.
In 2024, Reddit established Reddit Technologies India and Reddit Community Network India in Mumbai, marking a significant step in its local presence.
The platform is evidently focused on addressing the needs of its Indian users, aiming to provide a more localized experience.
During the third quarter of 2024, Reddit reported a remarkable 90 percent year-over-year increase in daily unique active users, alongside a 20 percent rise in female users.
Every day, millions of individuals worldwide engage in posting, voting, and commenting within various communities that reflect their interests. These Reddit communities facilitate content sharing through stories, links, images, and videos. Community interactions on these posts often spark discussions and debates. Users can upvote or downvote comments and posts, allowing the most engaging content to rise to prominence.
Reddit is establishing an office in Bengaluru to enhance its presence in India, as reported by Moneycontrol. This initiative aligns with the social media platform’s increasing emphasis on India, recognized as the second-largest internet market globally, as it aims to boost user engagement and diversify its revenue sources.
In recent months, Reddit has been actively recruiting for various roles, including growth, community management, operations and strategy, policy, and finance. While some positions will be located in the Bengaluru office, others may offer remote work options. This development follows the company’s registration of two entities—Reddit Technologies India Private Limited and Reddit Community Network India Private Limited—in Mumbai in July 2024.
India has emerged as a crucial market for Reddit, owing to its extensive and rapidly expanding internet user demographic. The company intends to cultivate a more culturally relevant local experience, a strategy it has successfully implemented in other regions. Although Reddit has not publicly shared its total user count in India, Moneycontrol has indicated that the unique daily active user base in the country experienced a 90 percent year-on-year increase during the July-September quarter of 2024. Notably, this period also saw a 20 percent rise in female users.
As of 2023, market research firm Statista estimated that Reddit had over 25 million monthly active users in India. The platform’s international user growth has significantly contributed to its overall expansion, with international daily active users rising by 46 percent to 53.7 million in Q4 2024. This figure accounts for nearly half of Reddit’s total global user base of 101.7 million.
Reddit’s expansion in India is driven by vibrant discussions in popular subreddits centered around Bollywood, cricket, finance, and technology. Furthermore, community engagement in cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram has gained momentum as users participate in conversations that are locally relevant.
To enhance its global reach, Reddit has been implementing AI-driven machine translation for content across various languages. In the third quarter of 2024, the launch of machine-translated content in languages including French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and German resulted in a fourfold increase in international users compared to the prior quarter. By 2025, Reddit intends to extend its machine translation services to over 30 countries.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, international markets contributed 18.7 percent to Reddit’s revenue, while the remaining 81.3 percent originated from the United States.
In a letter to shareholders dated January 2025, Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman underscored the significance of international expansion, remarking, “Machine translation is enabling international users to participate in their favorite communities and find the information they seek. International growth is critical to our goal of Reddit being a global platform.”
Founded in 2005 by Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, Reddit serves as a social news and discussion platform with an extensive array of communities. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2024 and continues to seek new markets to broaden its user base and revenue streams.
