The squads for Bangladesh’s November tour of the West Indies have yet to be announced.
Shanto will captain the team in the upcoming match against Afghanistan; however, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has not yet made a long-term decision regarding his captaincy or the selection of the squad for the tour of the West Indies scheduled for later in November.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as the captain for the upcoming three One Day Internationals against Afghanistan, scheduled to take place in Sharjah next week. This decision was made following a conversation between Shanto and BCB president Faruque Ahmed on Thursday evening, after the conclusion of the Chattogram Test. During this discussion, Shanto expressed his hesitance to continue serving as the captain across all formats for the national team. The BCB has yet to announce the squads for the West Indies tour, which is set for later in November and will include two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
Faruque addressed the media on Thursday, indicating that Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has been appointed as Shanto’s vice-captain for the Afghanistan series, along with Taskin Ahmed, are the leading candidates in the ongoing discussions regarding the future captaincy of the team.
All three players are included in the Bangladesh ODI squad. Notably, Nahid Rana, a 22-year-old fast bowler, is the only uncapped player in the lineup. Rana has participated in five Test matches to date, showcasing his impressive pace and bounce, having taken 26 wickets at an average of 16.46 in ten List-A matches.
The selectors have reinstated opener Zakir Hasan and left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed to the squad. Zakir, a left-handed batsman, has participated in only one ODI last year, in addition to his 12 Test matches. Nasum, on the other hand, last featured in one of his 15 ODIs during the World Cup held in India last year.
Notably, Anamul Haque, Taijul Islam, and Hasan Mahmud have been excluded from the team. Mahmud is sidelined due to a shoulder injury sustained in the ongoing National Cricket League.
Additionally, Bangladesh will be without Shakib Al Hasan, who, according to Faruque, has opted out of consideration for this ODI series. Litton Das is also unavailable due to fever, which prevented him from participating in the Chattogram Test against South Africa.
The Bangladesh team is scheduled to depart for Dubai in two groups on Saturday and Sunday, with three ODIs set to take place on November 6, 9, and 11 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
