Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam scores second Test century, crosses 1,000-run milestone

Shadman Islam Anik is a Bangladeshi international cricketer. He made his Test debut for the Bangladesh cricket team in November 2018
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam has notched up his second Test century during the second innings of the ongoing second Test against Zimbabwe in Chattogram. This milestone innings also saw him surpass 1,000 career runs in Test cricket.
Earlier in the match, Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first but were dismissed for 227.
Cricket has always been a common topic at Shadman Islam’s home, especially with his father, Shahidul Islam, being a long-serving age-group scout for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Shahidul felt immense pride when Shadman made his Test debut against the West Indies in November 2018.
Shadman, a left-handed opening batsman, has been a consistent performer in Bangladesh’s domestic circuit, especially in first-class cricket. His selection for the national team came on the back of a stellar 2018–19 National Cricket League season, where he topped the run charts with 648 runs at an average of 64.80.
Growing up in a sporting family, Shadman was drawn to cricket early on and progressed through the ranks of age-group cricket. He became a regular member of the Bangladesh Under-19 team and had an outstanding 2014 Under-19 World Cup, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 406 runs at an average of 101.50, including a century and two fifties. Several players who followed him on the run charts—such as Imam-ul-Haq, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Ben Duckett, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Liton Das—went on to make their international debuts before him.
