His filmography also includes notable titles such as The Crow, Night of the Living Dead, and The Rock. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1954, one of his significant early roles was in the 1986 Oliver Stone war drama Platoon, where he shared the screen with Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, and Johnny Depp.

However, it was his portrayal of the ghost of a 19th-century American slave in the 1992 film Candyman that propelled him to widespread recognition. He reprised this role in two sequels: Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh in 1995 and Candyman: Day of the Dead in 1999.
Virginia Madsen, his co-star from the horror series, honored Todd in a video shared on Instagram, expressing her difficulty in finding the right words at this moment. In her caption, she wrote: “My beloved. May you rest in power sweet to the sweet in heaven. The great actor Tony Todd has left us and now is an angel. As he was in life. More later but I can’t right now. I love you.”
Todd’s manager, Jeff Goldberg, also offered a tribute, stating: “What an amazing man and I will miss him every single day.”
