Unveiling the Meghalaya Murder Mystery
Who is Jitendra Raghuvanshi, and what role does he play in the shocking honeymoon murder case?
A New Twist in the Meghalaya Murder Case
The tragic murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya has taken a startling turn with the emergence of Jitendra Raghuvanshi, a name now central to the investigation. This high-profile case, dubbed “Operation Honeymoon,” has already seen five arrests, including Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. Jitendra’s connection to the financial transactions linked to the crime has raised eyebrows, prompting questions about his involvement and the broader conspiracy behind the murder.
Who is Jitendra Raghuvanshi?
Jitendra Raghuvanshi is Sonam Raghuvanshi’s maternal cousin and a junior employee in her family’s business, handling tasks like loading and unloading at their godown. His name surfaced when police discovered that his bank account was used to make initial payments to the contract killers hired to murder Raja on May 23, 2025. Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, clarified that the UPI account in Jitendra’s name contained family funds for routine business expenses. However, the police are investigating whether Jitendra was aware of the payments’ purpose or if his account was used without his knowledge.
“The account in his name actually has that money of ours which is spent on taking care of the day-to-day expenditure of the business,” Govind Raghuvanshi stated, dismissing speculations of illicit financial dealings.

The Financial Trail: A Key to the Conspiracy?
The investigation took a significant leap when police traced substantial transactions from Jitendra’s account to the three hitmen—Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—who allegedly carried out Raja’s murder. This financial link has led to speculation about deeper connections within the family’s business, though Govind firmly denies any wrongdoing. The Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team is now probing whether Jitendra played an active role or was merely a bystander in Sonam’s scheme.
Revisiting the Crime: A Honeymoon Turned Deadly
Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, married on May 11, 2025, in Indore, arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20. On May 22, they attempted to check into a homestay in Sohra but left their suitcase behind due to a lack of available rooms. A mangalsutra and ring found in the suitcase later became pivotal clues, suggesting Sonam’s premeditation. On May 23, Raja was killed near Weisawdong Falls, his body later discovered in a gorge with head injuries from a sharp weapon. Sonam, initially presumed missing, surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 9, alongside the arrests of Raj Kushwaha and the three contract killers.
“A married woman leaving behind the ornaments gave us a clue to pursue her as a suspect,” said Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang.
Family Dynamics and a Quest for Justice
Govind Raghuvanshi, Sonam’s brother, has publicly distanced the family from her actions, visiting Raja’s family in Indore to offer condolences and support. He expressed certainty of Sonam’s guilt after a brief confrontation in Ghazipur, stating, “Her reactions were enough to make me realize she had committed the crime.” The family has vowed to assist Raja’s kin in their pursuit of justice, adding a layer of emotional complexity to the case.
