Pawar accused NCP patron Sharad Pawar of causing a rift within the family and of supporting a candidate against him. Following his nomination submission on Monday for the Baramati assembly seat, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar expressed his emotions during a rally. He reiterated his claim that Sharad Pawar had instigated a division in the family and had backed a rival candidate.
“I have previously acknowledged my own mistakes, yet it appears that others are now erring as well. My family and I had reached a consensus to submit the nomination in Baramati first, but that did not occur. Despite the obstacles, we have worked to rectify the situation. My mother has been incredibly supportive, even suggesting that no one should be nominated against Ajit Pawar. However, I was informed that Saheb (Sharad Pawar) directed someone to run against me… Saheb has caused the division within the family.
I wish to emphasize that politics should not descend to such a low point, as it takes generations to foster unity, but only a moment to fracture a family,” he stated. He also mentioned that while Baramati has experienced considerable development, the public retains the right to question him regarding this matter. “Some individuals question the development initiatives in Baramati; however, this does not imply that constructing roads and schools does not constitute progress. I need to comprehend what development truly means and what actions should be taken to define it as such… I recognize your right to express your views… but what you articulate is not entirely clear,” he remarked.
Ajit Pawar expressed strong confidence in his electoral victory, asserting that any ongoing schemes would be discontinued as they serve the public’s interest. He stated, “Mahayuti will regain power. We will all know by the afternoon of November 23 that this government will be reinstated… because we must fulfill our commitments to farmers. The ‘Ladli scheme’ will be extended for the next five years… should the opposition come to power, they would terminate it… We are committed to action, unlike them… I prefer not to comment on democracy; everyone has the right to participate in elections… After submitting my nomination, I am confident that the people of Baramati will cast their votes for me in large numbers. During my roadshow today, I witnessed significant enthusiasm and support from the public. I urge everyone to maintain this enthusiasm until the day of voting.”
Ajit Pawar is fielded against his nephew and Sharad Pawar’s grandson Yugendra Pawar, having lost the lok Sabha seat to his sister Supriya Sule the Maharashtra Deputy CM will be keen to prove his might in Baramati.
