The inaugural day of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has concluded, with a total of 84 players being auctioned, comprising 72 sold and 12 unsold. The franchises collectively invested Rs 467.95 crore. A significant milestone was achieved during the IPL 2025 auction as renowned Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was acquired for Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in the history of the tournament. This surpassed the previous record held by Shreyas Iyer, who was secured by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders made a substantial investment in Venkatesh Iyer, acquiring him for Rs 23.75 crore. Additionally, Yuzvendra Chahal set a new record as the most expensive Indian spinner in IPL history, being purchased by PBKS for Rs 18 crore. Notably, Arshdeep Singh was the first player to be sold in the IPL 2025 Auction, acquired by PBKS through the Right to Match card for Rs 18 crore.
Ishan Kishan will represent Sunrisers Hyderabad after being acquired by the former champions for Rs 11.25 crore. In 2022, he was re-signed by Mumbai Indians for Rs 15.25 crore, but they did not pursue him this time. Mumbai Indians entered the bidding later than others, securing their first acquisition in Trent Boult for Rs 12.50 crore.
