IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Budget and Right to Match (RTM) card
All IPL franchises operate with a total budget of Rs 120 crore; however, they enter the auction with a reduced amount following the retention phase.
Among the franchises, Punjab Kings (PBKS) possesses the largest budget for the auction at Rs 110.5 crore, whereas Rajasthan Royals (RR) has the smallest budget at Rs 41 crore.
Right to Match:
The IPL auction incorporates a distinctive Right to Match (RTM) rule within the bidding process, enabling former franchises to reacquire their previous players at the price for which they were sold during the auction. This year, there is an added element to this rule.
Should a team opt to exercise the RTM, the team that wins the bid will be granted an opportunity to make one final bid to increase their offer. If the original franchise of the player decides to utilize the RTM on this final bid, they will successfully reclaim the player.
For instance, if KL Rahul is sold for Rs 15 crore by Punjab Kings (PBKS) and his former team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), opts to use their RTM, PBKS will have the opportunity to raise their bid. If PBKS submits a final bid of Rs 17 crore, LSG can only reacquire Rahul if they match that amount. If they do not, the RTM option will not be exercised.
