Norris wins at Marina Bay Street Circuit, finishes at least 20 seconds clear of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen…

Lando Norris of McLaren from the United Kingdom exhibited a commanding performance at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, finishing the race with a lead of at least 20 seconds over Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing.Lando Norris navigated several close encounters with the barriers to secure a comfortable victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, thereby reducing Max Verstappen’s lead in the Formula 1 standings on Sunday.
Norris triumphed in the 62-lap event at the 4.94-kilometer (approximately 3.1-mile) Marina Bay Street Circuit, crossing the finish line with a time of one hour, 40 minutes, and 52.571 seconds.
Defending champion Verstappen, hailing from the Netherlands, secured second place, finishing 20.945 seconds behind Norris.
Norris’ teammate at McLaren, Oscar Piastri, completed the podium by finishing in third place.
This season, Verstappen has claimed victory in seven Grands Prix, leading the 2024 Driver Standings with a total of 331 points.
However, Norris is closing the gap following his Round-18 victory in Singapore, ranking second in the standings with 279 points, having achieved three wins during the 2024 season.
Charles Leclerc of Ferrari from Monaco follows Norris with 245 points this season.
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Leclerc (Ferrari), and Piastri (McLaren) have each secured two victories this season, while George Russell (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) have each won once.
The Formula 1 series will head to the Americas in October, with the US Grand Prix scheduled for October 20 in Austin.
Subsequent races in Mexico, Brazil, and Las Vegas will take place in October and November, culminating the 2024 F1 season with Round 24 in Abu Dhabi on December 8.
Norris commenced the race from pole position, ahead of Verstappen, and methodically established a significant lead. There were two brief instances of concern when the McLaren driver initially locked his brakes and made contact with the barriers, raising fears of potential damage to the front wing. Later, a rear tyre made contact with another, yet Norris appeared largely unscathed as he smoothly navigated to victory, “It was an incredible race.
There were perhaps a few too many near misses,” Norris remarked. Verstappen secured second place for Red Bull after a race that was predominantly uneventful, having successfully defended against Lewis Hamilton at the first corner during the start. Oscar Piastri, who triumphed for McLaren in Azerbaijan the previous week, advanced from fifth on the grid to finish third, overtaking Mercedes’ Hamilton and subsequently George Russell for the final podium position.
Verstappen appeared at ease on Sunday, maintaining second place and minimizing the impact on his championship lead, which was reduced from 59 to 52 points.
