The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its initial list of 99 candidates for the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections on Sunday, October 20.

Devendra Fadnavis, a prominent BJP leader and the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, will be contesting from the Nagpur South West constituency. Meanwhile, the state BJP president, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has been nominated to run from Kamthi.
State minister Girish Mahajan is set to compete in Jamner, while Sudhir Mungantiwar will stand for election in Ballarpur.
Sreejaya Ashok Chavan, the daughter of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, will represent Bhokar, and Ashish Shelar has been selected to contest from Vandre West.
This announcement follows a significant meeting concerning the NDA alliance for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, which took place at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday. The meeting extended until approximately 2 AM and included notable attendees such as Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
While the ruling coalition, Mahayuti, and the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), have yet to finalize their electoral arrangements, the BJP is poised to maintain its leading position within the three-party Mahayuti alliance, with plans to contest approximately 160 of the 288 Assembly seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has confirmed the candidacy of 71 incumbent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in its initial list of 99 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. This list also includes relatives of certain regional leaders, such as the daughter of Ashok Chavan, a former Congress member who has since joined the BJP.
Notable figures in this first list, which was made public on Sunday, include Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, and ministers Girish Mahajan, Sudhir Mungantiwar, and Chandrakant Patil.
Reports citing sources indicate that the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance has reached a consensus on a seat-sharing arrangement after discussions held in Delhi this week. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also suggested earlier on Sunday that the negotiations have entered the ‘final stage.’
“Yesterday, we addressed the contentious seats through constructive dialogue. We plan to resolve the remaining few seats within the next two days, and it has been agreed that the party will announce the finalized seats at their discretion. Within the Bharatiya Janata Party’s framework, processes such as the Election Committee and Parliamentary Board are nearing completion. Our initial list could be released at any moment,” he stated.
